Climate change is making farming conditions increasingly difficult and resources are currently being overused worldwide. The overuse of nitrogen fertilisers is particularly problematic, as it has a significant environmental impact on food supply chains and damages farmland and crops. There is also a lack of user-friendly tools to help the world’s farmers use resources efficiently.
Lensor is a Helsinki-based startup founded in 2024. The company has a team of experts in remote sensing, data and business development. To address the challenges of farming, Lensor is building a data-driven resource management tool specifically designed for farmers around the world to help them use resources effectively and increase profitability.
“Our tool, based on remote sensing and AI, provides farmers with almost daily support on when and where to use nitrogen the field. We are creating an easy-to-use solution, backed by innovative technology, to deliver substantial value to our customers”, says Lisa Theman, founder and CEO of Lensor.
From vision to application
The first application developed for farmers and landowners provides an overview of when and where nitrogen should be used, enabling savings in the use of resources. Lensor is developing rapidly and will be providing a valuable nitrogen management tool to international markets when launched in 2025.
The end-users – farmers – have been at the heart of their work from day one. Working with pilot customers, farmers and industry stakeholders, the team learned about the major challenges facing farmers around the world. The Lensor team saw a huge need to support farmers in their daily lives with easily accessible, frequent and high-quality farm data. The pilot customers validated their technology and provided valuable feedback.
Currently, Lensor has users and partners in seven different countries, with plans to pilot with corporations in 2025. They are looking forward to closing their pre-seed round and accelerating development.
“We are in promising discussions regarding larger piloting opportunities, and we are excited to expand our user base and continue supporting global farmers. As a small, efficient core team, we face challenges associated with growth as our user base expands. We are fundraising to support this growth, and expanding our team is crucial. We’re also looking for piloting opportunities with companies in the industry”, Lisa Theman says.
